Smartphones and other internet enabled devices (tablets, dongles, phablets, etc.) are now really part of the IT landscape within an enterprise. What were once just mobile telephones are now mobile computers quite clearly, and as a result the high costs of IT management have crept in.
In Cochran v Schwann’s Home Service, the court ruled that the employer must pay the employee’s costs of using his mobile device for business purposes. The key sentence is this one: “Whether the employees have cell phone plans with unlimited minutes or limited minutes, the reimbursement owed is a reasonable percentage of their cell phone bills.”
Outsourcing is not a new idea. Organisations have been outsourcing chunks of their work for thousands of years. However, there is a big difference between simply outsourcing work and outsourcing the management of the work as well.
